Public Notice
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the University of Utah will hold a virtual public hearing on October 30, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. MDT (https://utah.zoom.us/j/97549423936, Meeting ID: 975 4942 3936, Passcode: EPA2024) to provide interested parties an opportunity to express their views on the proposed federally funded Brownfield Cleanup Grant project.
On or about November 14, 2024, the University of Utah intends to prepare and submit a grant application to the United Stated Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to obtain $2,000,000 in Brownfields funding for environmental cleanup of a property located at 550 and 570 West 400 South in Salt Lake City, Utah (site). Past uses of the property have resulted in releases of chlorinated and non-chlorinated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that have impacted portions of the property. The University of Utah proposes to develop the property in conjunction with Salt Lake City’s RDA Rio Grande District redevelopment strategy. These funds are to be used for the cleanup of environmental impacts from the former industrial uses of the site, and other associated costs. The University of Utah encourages citizens, business owners, and other interested stakeholders to attend the October 30, 2024 virtual meeting to provide feedback and comments regarding the grant application and plans for cleanup and reuse of the property.
Information related to this project or the public hearing, including copies of the draft grant application and draft cleanup plan, referred to as the Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA), are available for review below.
Emails, Google forms, and mailed comments submitted to the email, website links, and physical address provided below must be received no later than 12:00 p.m. MDT on October 30, 2024 to ensure inclusion of such comments in the official record of the public hearing proceedings.
